Alice Ferreira Lopes:
BUCKLAND Michael K. Information as a thing. Journal of the American Society of Information Science (1986-1998), v. 42, n.5, p 351, 1991. (texto original aqui; tradução livre aqui)
  • ‘’ Information-as-thing is of special interest in the study of information systems. It is with information in this sense that information systems deal directly. Libraries deal with books; computer-based information systems handle data in the form of physical bits and bytes; museums deal directly with objects. The intention may be that users will become informed (information-as-process) and that there will be an imparting of knowledge (information-as-knowledge). But the means provided, what is handled and operated upon, what is stored and retrieved, is physical information (information-as-thing). On these definitions, there can be no such thing as a “knowledged-based” expert system or a “knowledge access” system, only systems based on physical representations of knowledge. ‘’ (P. 352)
  • "If something cannot be viewed as having the characteristics of evidence, then it is difficult to see how it could be regarded as information. If it has value as information concerning something, then it would appear to have value as evidence of something. “Evidence” appears to be close enough to the meaning of information-as-thing to warrant considering its use as a synonym when, for example, describing museum objects as “authentic historic pieces of evidence from nature and society.” (Schreiner, 1985, p. 27)." ( p. 469).
  • “Information-as-thing”, then, is meaningful in two senses: (1) At quite specific situations and points in time an object or event may actually be informative, i.e., constitute evidence that is used in a way that affects someone’s beliefs; and (2) Since the use of evidence is predictable, albeit imperfectly, the term “information” is commonly and reasonably used to denote some population of objects to which some significant probability of being usefully informative in the future has been attributed. It is in this sense that collection development is concerned with collections of information.’’ (P. 357)

Duda Bentes:
CAPURRO, Rafael; HJORLAND, Birger.

  • Image records and documents have increased their reproduced visual information, and generated new records without the register of such transformation. That practice stimulates the multiplication of image manifestations of a same content, homogenizing different contexts and records. (Obs: o texto faz referência à internet)
  • It is important to remember that the erroneous identification of the complete record, the one that is proficient to generate consequences, may lead to disastrous outcomes at the research level as well as on the execution of administrative tasks. This aspect is more delicate when it involves records and documents which validation signs and proceedings are incorporated as an attach register, like on image and electronic records. The disconnection of such bond might have disastrous consequences not only during the execution of the administrative activities but also on their proof. The identification of the record’s genesis is the only resource able to avoid the pitfalls posed by the image polysemy character.
  • On an image record, lonely considered, the veracity has the propensity to be bewildered with image’s authenticity, since there will not be enough data to determine the record’s context.
2011. (Acesso aqui)
  • “La organización archivística de los documentos imagéticos nos presenta diferentes dificultades, principalmente en lo que atañe al uso de los principios orientadores de esta disciplina, tales como el de procedencia (respect des fonds) y el de respeto al orden original”;
